STATESIDE SWITCHERS

(5)   PORTERS SMALL SWITCHER

Between the years 1900 and 1920 the locomotive building firm of H. K. Porter & Co sold a large number of their standard 040 saddle tanks to purchasers all over the U.S.A. These locomotives were available for 4ft 8½in or 3ft 0in gauges, and the drawings show the minor differences between these two types. Some main-line railroads used them for shunting, but most were employed by industrial operators and contractors.
