Other UK Books

As well as the Regional Handbooks, the IRS also publishes a number of books on industrial railway subjects, covering such things as individual industrial railways (e.g. John Knowles), locomotive builders (Baguley-Drewry), or the industrials of a specific town or area (St.Helens, Widnes & Warrington).

However perhaps our most important publication is the 'EL' Handbook. This was first introduced in 1969 as a field guide for enthusiasts wanting to know details of the industrial and preserved locomotives still existing in the UK. It has been our most successful publications and since then it has gone from strength to strength. The current edition is the 16th in the series, and is any essential book for all those interested in seeking out industrial locomotives.
